Only a few of these auditors renew the annual certifications. Others come here on behalf of their clients. They check for hygene, pest control, markings and product information, cleaning procedures, working procedures, standard operation procedures etc etc. Then it is essential to have a lot of documentation (paper trail) to proof what and how the hygene is measured and registered, what is allowed and what is banned.
Thorverk sells both to Europe and the US, India and China, and there are different rules that apply at the receiving end. Until November in 2024 these are the organisations that have certified that Thorverk stays witin set boundaries for food production, Kosher ingredients, European Green Leaf label, TÚN, Ecocert (US), Quality Auditing (US) and internal auditing for sustainable seaweed aquisition audited by the ACCOL in Boston but without certification stamps. Even though it is not recommended in EU to offer Asco and Laminara for human consumption, an auditor comes to check for discepencies for food production at Thorverk. Passing these standars is a major achievement.
