During 3 weeks of July the well know expert Glyn Sharp has been collecting macro-algae and weighing biomass on shores and islands. His goal is to learn more about the effects of harvesting on the biomass in Breidafjordur. Thorverk supplies boats and equipment for the short trips. His assistant is from NAVE, the Research Centre of the Wstfjords, Mrs Hafdís Sturlaugsdóttir. She claims that the research has taught her alot about the ecosystem of the fjord and the environment. Otherwise Hafdís is well know for her vegetation mapping in the Westfjrods.

One more happy year

FMC recently sent Thorverk an appreciation for yet another year free of accidents. Sure enough, there have occurred mishaps and serious incidents but no recordable accidents occured in 2016. Now there are 4 certificates for safe annual operation. Many good suggestions for caution and safer operation have come from the employees. Many of these have been implemented and awareness is rising. Hip hip hurray.. !

The cable is crawling in

Thorverk is happy to state that the fibre cable is about to be connected to Thorverk. We celebrate this with a new website. It means that the web is becoming more stable. The fiber-cable will give the opportunity for more connection security higher speed and better contact to all sort of media. .. more, higher and better, sounds good..

While the industrial plant of Thorverk is undergoing renovation, the geothermal wells at Reykholar were put under a load test. It is the international goethermal research and consultancy ISOR that performs the tests. During the first two weeks of February the welltops were made ready with the insertion of pressure and flow meters as well as thermeters.

As soon as the pressure in the pipes changes, vapour begins to  risefrom pipe new spots at Reykholar. Those are indications of small leakages in the system. All pipes were therefore mended and where it was neccesary new pipes and pressure meters were installed.

Within a few weeks a report will be issued from ISOR concerning the geothermal conditions.

Reflections from the school

Barely walking but ready to play safely outside
Barely walking but ready to play safely outside

Though the muncipality of Reykholar is one of the smallest in Iceland, only 275 inhabitants, the childern at school and kindergarten amount to around 60. They often go to the pool or play outside or wander around to look for things to study in the neighbourhood. Drivers therefore must be very careful and look out for these small citizens. Bjarni, Birna and Finnur from Thorverk therefore brought a neccesity to school the other day. Reflection wastecoats for all the children in kindergarten (age 1-5) the school pupils (6-15) and the teachers ( well.. 20->?). Now they all brighten up the neighbourhood during the dark days of winter.
